Opened it and the pressure switch is the crook. Have the same p-washer (5-6 years old) and the same problem. There is no real danger of the valve parts getting seriously airborn since the actual pump output volume is very low (2.5 Gal/min). I have performed this procedure a number of times and the valve insert always pops out. If it doesn't come out after two or three pulls, set the throttle to low and start the engine. With the engine throttle closed, pull the starter cord several times to see it the valve insert will pop out. Wad up a small towel and place it over the bypass valve opening to catch the valve insert when it pops out.
I mentioned many causes, but usualy it is the spill valve. The electric motor will be turning, but the pistons stay in the same position. Another cause but very rare, is that the swash plate that is pushing the pistons got loose.
If these are not closing, then water is being sucked while delivering. One also can examine the delivery valves. If the sucktion vaves do not close, also water keeps on circulating. Also there could be a fault in the sucktion valves.
In this case change the spill valve with a new one. If when the trigger is pulled and the bottom part of the spill valve does not close, then water keeps on circulating and hence no pressure. When the trigger is released, the spill valve compresses to let water circulate from its bottom part. When the trigger is pulled, the spill valve is in normal position.
